BAPIO launched its Young Doctors’ Forum in Birmingham in July 2009 to help the next generation of doctors shape their future. The forum is open to BAPIO members who have graduated in the last 15 years.
At the launch of the forum, Dr Ramesh Mehta, President, BAPIO said “The formation of the Young Doctors Forum is vital for BAPIO as we want to be inclusive of the new generation to help us to shape their future”. Dr Satheesh Mathew, Vice-Chair of BAPIO spoke of the diffic ulties faced by the junior doctors and those who were new arrivals in the UK.
The forum has been active in educational initiatives by organising national events. Th e ‘Getting published: What you need to know’ workshops in Cambridge, London and Wrexham (Wales) was well received and aimed to encourage research among junior doctors.
In 2011, the forum launched a Mentoring Scheme for BAPIO members following an in-house training programme developed and led by Dr Rajeev Gupta, Chair of BAPIO’s Yorkshire division. The scheme has been popular among members and has scope to expand its remit in future.
