The North West division of British Association of Physicians of
Indian Origin was launched at a glittering evening ceremony at
Saffron restaurant, Manchester on 7th of August 2004 by Mr
Salahuddin Choudhry, the Consul General of Pakistan Embassy in
Manchester. Dr Virendra Puri welcomed the eminent guests including
National Executive of BAPIO, North West BAPIO team and Mrs Razia
Shamim, non executive director of Acute Pennine Hospitals NHS
Trust. He then introduced Dr Ramesh Mehta, the National President
of BAPIO, who explained the Aims and Objectives of the
organisation. He also pointed out how BAPIO is getting stronger
nationally.
Prof. Romesh Gupta, the National Chairman said North west is the
heart of doctors of Indian Origin. I am delighted with the
response we have had He introduced and invited the chief guest Mr
Salahuddin Choudhry to launch the North-West division of BAPIO by
the traditional way of lighting the lamp. He was assisted by BAPIO
vice chairmen Dr. Umesh Prabhu and Prof. Iqubal Memon.
Mr Salahuddin congratulated the organisation for its achievements
and expressed his heart felt thanks for the invitation. He praised
the work done by doctors from Indian Subcontinent for the Health
Service. He was pleased that BAPIO is promoting the peace process
between India and Pakistan. He said he is very keen that the peace
process gets stronger and is happy to extend any help required.
A
very special guest at the function was Ex commissioner of Bombay
Police Mr Jayant Waghle.He was felicitated by Mr Choudhry.
Dr Satwinder Basra, the General Secretary of BAPIO proposed the
vote of thanks. Special mention was made of the hard work done by
Dr Vyom Puri, Dr. Chitra Jain and Sonali Puri.
