1) Choice & Opportunity Document
A major review of SAS doctors is imminent.
The Department of Health (DoH) seems to be committed to
recognising the contribution of SAS doctors. The consultation
period for this document ended on 31 October 2003 and I hope
many of you took the opportunity to reply. The DoH will
produce a draft document by March 2004 after collating and
analysing all the responses. The DoH has informed the Central
SAS Committee that overall, it received a positive response. |

2) Postgraduate Medical Education & Training Board (PMETB)
The Board has now been constituted and should start functioning
from October 2004. It is disappointing that there is no
representative from SAS doctors on the panel. The SAS Central
Committee has conveyed our feelings to both the Chairman of the
PMETB Board and also to the DoH. Even now, the opportunity exists
for SAS doctors to get onto the following statutory committees
viz., the Assessment Committee and the Training Committee.
I encourage anyone who is interested to apply by writing to the
PMETB Chairman, Professor Clive Morton at:
PMETB, Room 2N35, Quarry House, Quarry Hill, LEEDS LS2 7UE.
Yours sincerely
Om Bansal
